Davy Jones Locker

Here we will find the lost tales of the Kracken and the stories behind how we came up with our concepts.

KRACKEN NOT KRAKEN? – /kr-ck-n/ is a legendary sea monster of giant size said to have god-like powers. These scrolls are from an ancient Greek island found hundreds of years back regarding a guardian of the sea called the Kracken. If you read back in the history books you will see the people of ancient Greece offered sacrifices for safe passage on the seas. In the scrolls the spelling of his name translate to KRACKEN and was written in ancient Greek Language called Koine which is an extinct language. It is a mix of Attic Dialect spoken in the 5th century BC. The Kracken (not to be confused by Kraken) is also called the Guardian of the Sea.

SCROLL 1 : The Emperor's Sub

One cold night on February 1, 1967 the USS Scorpion lay silent in our Norfolk Naval shipyard. The sub was being overhauled in preparation for her next mission. The U.S.S Scorpion specialized in the development of nuclear warfare tactics. A hunter in the sea and one of the first of its kind for the U.S. Navy.

February 15th 1968 the sub received orders to patrol the Mediterranean waters as threats of Russian submarines where sighted not far from that position. After several days of running retune sonar pings all appeared normal. Day 7 of the subs run there where last reported 50 miles south of the Azores off Bermuda.

Suddenly the submarine had disappeared from radar and was never to be heard from again. The wreckage of the USS Scorpion The US Navy disbursed crews to the last known area to see if they could recover the ship and find out what caused the sub to disappear. After weeks of searching the area crews did find the wreckage of the Scorpion. It lay silent at the bottom of the ocean.

Navy SS Scorpion

Pictures of the wreckage revealed that the sub had been ripped in half. The depth at which it was found was almost 3,000 meters deep. The forward hull including the torpedo room and radio where all intact. The rear section of the sub to include the engine room had a huge crater when it impacted the ground floor.

The Forward hull was found more than 3,000 feet away as if it had been placed there. After review the reports mentioned that the Scorpion’s running lights were in the locked position as if it were at the surface at the time of the unexplained occurrence. Speculations indicated an internal explosion had occurred yet the hull seemed to have been crushed from the outside of the sub.

Unique markings have been found on the outside of the hull in the shape of small circles. That night 99 crewmen were aboard the Scorpion. Only the crew will truly know what happened that cold night as the sub was ripped in half and dragged to the depths of the bottom never to be heard from again.

SCROLL 2 : The Deep Abyss - Salvage Diver

In 1968 a U.S. Navy Salvage Diver by the name of Anderson Scott Davis found himself in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. He sits on desk waiting staring into horizon. He can see a strong storm brewing to the north. He has an odd feeling about today and feels uncertain about his next dive. He was on mission to help recover and salvage top-secret information form the wreckage of the SS Scorpion. He was told very little about the dive and unsure what he would find.

As Davis gets lowered into position, he regains his courage as he’s dropped into the dark ocean. As he descends to the dark abyss, he can feel the pressure of the ocean tighten he suit as he starts to pass 5 fathoms. He reminds focus on his mission. The Scorpion was the first of its kind for the Navy as its core was nuclear. If fallen into the wrong hands, the consequences would be great.

Just passing 10 fathoms and can start to see the outline of the sub below. As he touches down, Davis is taken back by what lays in front of him. He walks closer to the wreckage only to find that only half of the sub was intact. He had seen many wrecks in his past but none like this. He worked his way to the forward torpedo room only to find that all torpedoes’ are still intact and account for.

After examining the wreckage he concluded that the Scorpion had not been sunk by an external explosion. Taking a closer look around her haul revealed strange circular patterns. The sub appeared to be crushed down the middle then ripped in half. After seeing more then 50 wrecks in his career he had never seen anything like this. He started to feel a sense of panic set in as he felt as if he was not alone.

Finishing his mission he prepares for ascension, he can’t help to feel something supernatural has happened. 5 min. into his ascension he feels heavy. Checking to see if the line was caught he looks down and notices something had wrapped itself around his foot. As he struggles to kick it loose, a second tentacle wraps around his waist and starts to pull him back into the abyss.

Davis remembers his training and reaches for his knife. He plunges it deep into one into one the tentacles and then slashes another until it releases him. He was able to break free and knows he barely made it out of there with his life.
